They don't make windsurf boards anymore, but Strapper still exists. Paul van Bellen visited Strapper in Torquay in South Australia. Strapper is a surf shop, and they've been around for a very long time. Paul has made a nice documentary about it. Nice piece of windsurfing history. [Read...]
Good north wind forecasted for the end of the afternoon, with sun, so chance of a nice afternoon at Brouwersdam south.
Sailed with Banzai 5.3 and Goya One 95. I got to test the Puls 110 and 95 from Henk. A lot of waveriding, some long lines so even 3 hits were sometimes possible. Sailed until I was completely empty. It was a wonderful afternoon/evening session. [Read...]
East 18 to 25 knots predicted, perfect for the Grevelingendam.
Sailed with the Banzai 6.0 and JP FSW 102. Water generally very flat. In the gusts, the board easily got upwind. Planing jibing was often very easy. It was already nice and warm, winter suit was even warm, first time this year with summer boots. Wind was quite gusty, big wind holes. [Read...]
Wind WNW and clear skies: perfect for the Grevelingendam.
Sailed with the Banzai 6.0 and ith JP FSW 102. Tested inboard and outboard strap positions. Inboard clearly nicer for jumping and waveriding. Outboard feels more freeride: faster and more natural feel.
It was wonderfully sunny. With 10 degrees not very cold, but wind still felt chilly. [Read...]
Sun and east wind forecasted, 15 to 25 knots. Expected to wind to be a bit less, and bit gusty.
Started with Banzai 6.0 en JP FSW 102. Wind was stronger then expected. Switched to Banzai 5.3 with Goya 95.
Sailed the Goya 95 with only a center fin.
Clear blue sky, with 13 degrees not warm, but certainly not cold. It was busy, a lot of familair faces. [Read...]
Forecast: 35 to 45 knots SW, 11 degrees and chance of rain: Banzai 3.7 with AHD Power Wave 253. I did everything to have more control. Board had control. Sail was big in the hard gusts, but in the end also controlable.
It was tough, I sailed much too tensed in the beginning, so tired quickly. Gusts were extreme. With 4 men it was very quiet on the water. [Read...]
Forecast: 10 to 12 degrees, south wind up to 26 knots. South is always gusty. On arrival only 6 degrees.
Sailed with the Banzai 6.0 and FSW 102.
It was too cold. Wind was, as to be expected, gusty, normally not nice, but when it is also this cold: had better sessions. [Read...]
Fast increasing wind predicted, 8 degrees and sun. Sailed with Banzai 5.3 with JP FSW 102.
In the end I really couldn't close the sail in the gusts. 4.2 would have been a lot better, and in the gusts maybe even 3.7 was possible.
It was only 7 degrees, colder than I normally take as a lower limit. All day clear blue sky, and with the sun it was still doable. [Read...]
Forecast was grey but dry and 28 to 35 knots.
On the way to the coast the sky slowly turned blue, in the end it was sunny almost all afternoon.
Sailed with the Tri-Wave 89, combined with the Banzai 4.7 and 4.2. Lovely waveriding and jumping.
Great day, especially when the sun was shining it was not cold at all.
Wonderfully sailing. Especially together with Henk in the surf was really nice. [Read...]
Still warm weather, and a lot of wind predicted. Surfing on day 2 of the new year.
Started with Banzai 4.2 and Goya One 95, later wind decreased and switched to Banzai 5.3 with FSW 102.
It was very gusty, wind turned all the time. Pretty good choice in terms of equipment.
Nice afternoon, nice sailing: good start of the year. [Read...]
Forecast: Slightly less wind than the day before. SW. So should be nice 4.7 weather ended up rigging: FSW 102 and Banzai 6.0. Lots of fun waves to jump, often high jumps. Sail was soon trimmed over max: too big.
The 6.0 was the wrong choice. Had I started with 5.3 it would have been too big at the end. But still reasonably doable.
Nice to finish the year like this. [Read...]
Last days of the year, forecast: wind and 10+ degrees. Autumn was relatively bad.
Sailed with Banzai 4.2 and Triwave 89.
Set worked very well. Control and range very good. A bit of back-side riding. Waves never high enough for front-side. It was nice to really sail with a small sail again. [Read...]
Pieter Bijl was photographed, up close, with a North Sails XOver proto. I haven't seen any pictures from that close. [Read...]
Best day of the week, space in the agenda, dry and wind.
Sailed with JP FSW 102 and Banzai 5.3.
Nice sailing. Little rain, no sun, cold. Wind through the showers somewhat variable. It was nice that there were like 10 surfers on the water. [Read...]
Prediction only became less. Upon arrival, nobody was planing.
Sailed with iSonic 117 and S-Type 8.3. The 8.3 turned out to be a good choice, could almost always plane.
Certainly not the wind that had been predicted, but with a lot of sun it was a wonderful November afternoon. No gloves or cap needed. Not even used my winter shoes. [Read...]
Wind direction was predicted W/NW: perfect for the Grevelingendam, sometimes this can give nice chop for jumping.
Sailed with JP FSW 102 and Banzai 6.0.
It was a nice day: lots of sun, constant wind: Fun! [Read...]
Prediction was 20 to 30 knots W/SW, wind was rather S/SW and 18 to 22 knots. Wind would increase, so rigged the 5.3.
Sailed with: Goya One Pro 95 and Banzai 5.3. The 5.3 was a bit small for the conditions.
Wind was disappointing, more was predicted. No sun or rain, but not really cold either. [Read...]
Forecast: rain, normally enough reason not to go to Zeeland. But I hadn't sailed for long. There were an absurt amount of surfers, especially for late October. There was almost no parking space left.
Sailed: iSonic 117 with S-Type 7.3 and SL-X 43cm.
It was raining almost all the time, wind gusty. Certainly not a good day, but nice to have sailed again. [Read...]
Around noon the rain would stop and the wind would turn to WNW. Sailed the Goya 95 with Banzai 5.3
It was dry, sometimes sun, right wind direction, wind not gusty. I sailed until I was getting tired and the wind started to decrease. It was delicious. [Read...]
